Newcomer Employment Resource Centre
Canada offers many opportunities for newcomers. However,
there are many challenges. At our Newcomer Employment Resource Centre, we provide pre-employment support on effective job search
skills to immigrants and refugees who are unemployed, out of
school and legally allowed to work in Canada with the goal of
helping them enter the workforce.
There is an Employment
Counsellor here to meet with you for one-on-one individual job search
assistance. The Newcomer
Employment Resource Centre’s services include, but are not limited to:
-
Assessing needs
considered during a job search, such as language ability and
transportation
-
Education in various job search methods including the hidden job market
-
Assistance with effective résumé and cover letters, interviewing and
negotiation skills
-
Guidance through the labyrinth of obtaining the necessary
professional accreditation
-
Conducting structured individual sessions on the local labour market
and Canadian business
-
Facilitating networking opportunities with potential
employers within the Quinte area
-
Providing the
tools necessary to facilitate employment search
When you are ready to start your job search, a computer, fax machine and
photocopier are available at the Newcomer Employment Resource
Centre to assist you with your individual job search, labour market
research, and applications including assistance preparing cover letters
and résumés.
