Settlement Services
Quinte
United Immigrant Services is committed to facilitating the
adaptation, settlement and integration of newcomers to Canada so
that they may become participating Canadian citizens as quickly as
possible, through bridging services of an economic and social
nature. We deliver direct, essential services to newcomers including
reception, orientation, translation/interpretation, referral to
community resources, solution focused counselling, general
information and employment-related services to meet the needs of
newly arrived immigrants any time after their arrival in Canada up
to the time they become Canadian citizens. More specifically:

Referrals to the HOST program, economic, social, health,
cultural, educational and recreational services, as well as
receiving referrals;

Assistance obtaining Social & Health Insurance, Child Tax
Benefits, driver’s licences, housing, schooling, advocacy to
community at large, interpretation services, and assistance in
receiving credentials to work in Canada;

Help through the immigration process, to sponsor family
members and obtain citizenship;
-
Conducting workshops on health, employment, language,
domestic assault prevention and education;
-
Providing non-therapeutic counseling;
-
Maintaining a multi-lingual staff (English, Italian,
Portuguese, French and Spanish; additional languages are
available through volunteers when needed);

Help registering for either full- or part-time language
classes;
